Introduction

The University of San Diego's Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering does more than develop world-class engineers and computer scientists in a nationally recognized program. We help these bright minds develop into Changemakers with the global perspective, social awareness and leadership skills to make a difference in the world. We cater to the students who, as kids, aimed to build something more complex than the picture on the Lego box. Here, those who challenge convention can become successful professionals who leave a positive mark on their world.

The University of San Diego's engineering program was founded in 1987 and more recently established as a school in 2013 by Darlene Marcos Shiley, whose extraordinary vision and inspiration resonates in our hallways, our communities and our hearts. Through the years, engineering at USD has grown into a bustling program ranked #13 in the nation among non-doctoral-granting engineering programs by U.S. News & World Report. Today, we offer undergraduate programs in computer science, electrical engineering, industrial and systems engineering, integrated engineering and mechanical engineering, and graduate programs in applied artificial intelligence, applied data science and cybersecurity engineering. The school has a home that's equally stunning and innovative: the Belanich Engineering Center, made possible by a generous donor who believes in the school's mission and impact.

There are many forces behind our growth: our academic reputation, accreditation, dual BS/BA degrees, small class sizes and personal attention all add up to powerhouse graduates. As an added draw, the University of San Diego's ranking as one of the nation's most beautiful campuses certainly helps. Students and faculty clear their heads and refresh their senses strolling the campus' mission-style buildings, soaking in our hilltop views of Mission Bay and breathing the ocean air tinged with the scent of eucalyptus trees and bougainvillea flowers. It is a place that keeps both students and faculty healthy, relaxed and very well fed.
