About us

The University of Bucharest offers several study programmes, on all levels and means of university education: there are 93 bachelor programmes, 208 master programmes and 21 doctoral programmes. All of these are accredited or authorised. The University of Bucharest also holds the TIFFIN EMBA master programme.

The diplomas awarded by the University of Bucharest are recognised in most of the countries around the world. Within the University of Bucharest there are study programmes organised in collaboration with other prestigious universities abroad. The graduates of these programmes may receive diplomas from both the University of Bucharest and from the partner universities.

The University of Bucharest is one of the most important scientific research centres nationwide. Within the University, there are over 50 research institutes, departments and centres, most of them collaborating with similar scientific centres abroad.

During the last years, our institution has managed to constantly gain the first place in national competitions for research funds. Some of the entities dedicated to research have been appointed the status of excellence on a European level. The University has its own research headquarters in Sinaia, Brăila, Orşova and other pilot subsidiaries in other places around the country.

The University of Bucharest is part of a reliable network of international collaboration – 300 of bilateral collaboration agreements have been signed with universities in 52 countries. Annually, there are over 1000 students of the University of Bucharest who perform various development or improvement activities within a great number of academic programmes in universities in Western Europe, the United States, Canada, Japan etc.

The University of Bucharest has been and still is the motor of important reformation measures for the development of the higher education, which have also been taken over by other universities around the country, or which have represented the grounds for the elaboration of several laws and national regulations.

In 2000, the University of Bucharest has received the Diploma of Excellence offered by the Minister of National Education.

In 2011, the University of Bucharest has been classified by the Minister of Education, Research, Youth and Sports as being the first advanced research and education university.

In 2014, the University of Bucharest has celebrated 150 years since its opening.

In present, the University of Bucharest has almost 32.000 students and over 1300 professors.
