Financial assistance for your accommodation

What is APL?

This is financial assistance (called an “allowance”) for housing. It is paid by the Family Allowance Fund (CAF).

What is it for?

This allowance can help you pay your rent.

If you have purchased a home and borrowed money from the bank, APL can help you pay off this loan.

Who is it for?

If you have little money or a low salary, you may be eligible for housing assistance.

If you have a high salary, you will not be entitled to it.

It is paid according to your housing situation:

  • You are single or a couple, with a dependent, and you rent a subsidized accommodation (most social housing is subsidized)
  • If you have bought a house or apartment, and you have borrowed money from the bank, you may be entitled to housing assistance.

When to apply?

As soon as you have the keys to your accommodation.

Before doing the simulation, gather the following information:

  • on your accommodation
  • on the composition of your family
  • your current professional situation: are you working? On a fixed-term contract? Permanent contract?
  • your personal income for 2018 (income = salary, money earned at work)
  • your bank statements showing the current amount of your assets
  • your latest notice of assessment for housing tax: you will find there “The gross rental value” of your built real estate to be declared.
  • your latest notice of assessment for property taxes

If you live as a couple, you will be asked about the profession and salary of your partner/spouse.

Ryan Aouzir - Marketing France, Asia

I always liked studying Japanese, and then I also wanted to go to business school, so I found ISMAC and I found that it was a school that combined the two, it was very good.

Nathalia Cao - Metz

I had a great time at ISMAC, at first I came out of curiosity and finally, I was able to make some Korean friends. So, I was able to apply what I had learned in class directly and progress quickly. It was by going to South Korea that I really realized that I had a completely different level! Thank you ISMAC.

Why ISMAC is an exception

  • A school in the heart of Paris, co-managed by French and Asian people, which welcomes students from all countries, more than 60% of whom come from abroad;
  • A school that combines vocational courses with language and intercultural courses;
  • A school that emphasizes learning by doing with a majority of speakers who are professionals from the private sector and who pass on their field experiences to students;
  • An intercultural school that emphasizes interpersonal skills and know-how rather than the accumulation of knowledge;
  • A school that works with companies to offer students an immersion in a professional environment (consulting workshops with real deliverables for real companies)
    – A small school that follows and listens to its students.

Looking for accommodation

Go through an agency.

You can search for accommodation through an agency located in the city where you want to settle. This can save you time, and the search will also be easier. Indeed, the agency will have several accommodations to offer you, corresponding to your criteria.

Agencies know their area well and will help landlords (people renting) set reasonable prices.

The costs

The only downside: if you go through a real estate agency, you will have to pay agency fees, also called agency fees. This can be expensive!

Here is what agencies are allowed to charge you, in accordance with the Alur law:

  • organizing visits
  • preparing the file
  • drafting the lease
  • inventory of fixtures upon entry

How much does it cost?

For a rental, for example, the amount of agency fees to be paid by the tenant generally does not exceed the amount of rent excluding charges.

For example: for a rent of €800 per month, the costs cannot exceed €800.

Shared accommodation

Shared accommodation is the rental of the same accommodation by several tenants. If you opt for shared accommodation, you will therefore live with other people.

Roommates may be related to each other: a couple (cohabitants), members of the same family or friends. But they may also not know each other at all.

Married people or people in a civil partnership cannot be roommates.

Shared accommodation is a good option for finding affordable and sufficiently large accommodation.

For the Paris region, there is Coopcoloc.

On the Roommate Map, you can search by location.
